Don't Call It A Comeback

I’ve been quieter on social media in the last few years. How am I supposed to speak authentically when the version of myself being celebrated no longer exists? The girl who won Western States is no longer here, yet that version of myself is bought and sold every time I post—no wonder I feel paralyzed when I open the apps.

In this blog, I want to share some of the hardships I’ve endured as a female athlete. I hope my blog posts are a blade of grass in a flourishing field of stories urging change. As cliche as it sounds, if ONE girl reads this and can identify red flags because of it, it will be worth it. If ONE coach reads this as a cautionary tale, these blogs will be a huge success.

A Surprise Hunting Trip with Cam Hanes

I understand why people disagree with hunting. I understand why they might be repulsed at the idea of taking a life. It isn’t easy - and I think that is the point. The heaviness of killing an animal is a reality check. It simplifies life down to our most basic needs, and throughout human history, hunting has been THE means of survival in many communities.

Excited to announce our first podcast sponsor- DeltaG

I knew the right partnerships would come if I stayed patient and didn’t settle. I kept that in mind as we began testing DeltaG products. I was optimistic with a healthy dose of skepticism. But in the first day of taking DeltaG, the difference in my mental acuity was enough to sell me. It was crazy! I had just landed in Europe, I was jet lagged and tired but had three podcasts lined up for the day. I took DeltaG Performance before recording an episode with Lucy Bartholomew, my third of the day, and I could not believe the difference. I felt engaged and sharp throughout the 90-minute episode. I was sold.

I highly recommend taking the Ketone Quiz to determine what Ketones you should take based on your needs. My quiz results said that Ketone Performance and Ketone Health were the best bang for my buck.

A day in the life of trying hard to get fast

I am a professional trail runner and coach, splitting time between the North Shore of Oahu, a surfing mecca, and traveling the world to train and race. Ever wonder what my day looks like? No two are the same, but while I am here in Hawaii, I am trying to gain some semblance of a routine after 2.5 months of living out of my suitcase. Here is what my typical day has looked like at home.

Never Fear, The Silverton is here

This week, we launch The Silverton. A frame made to perform on any face and outfitted with the TRAIL26 lens, the piece of technology that started it all, promising unparalleled vision from dawn to dusk. Our first official UltraTrail product, developed from the ground up specifically for ultra trail running. Wow.

The name is an ode to a new technique masterfully paired with a tried and true fixture. We altered what people know about sunglasses, a piece of equipment that has been around longer than any of us have been alive, with innovative, out-there lens technology. Just the old Colorado mountain town of Silverton. Rich with history and tradition and transformed by the new-age, quirky sport of mountain ultra running.

An old town forever altered by a new sport. And hopefully, an old industry revolutionized by a new technology

It's the people, the mission and the product

So I reevaluated what a brand relationship meant to me. I am at a point in my career where racing is important, but community outreach is everything. And because I want to be so involved with the community, I need to only partner with brands whose products and mission align with my mission and needs as an athlete. I also need to know who was behind the relationship. While I value having an agent more than I can express here, having the barrier between the brand or athlete manager and me made it much more difficult to rep a logo. In short, I need to be sure that I love whatever product I am promoting, that the brand mission is rad and that the people behind it are good and well-intended.

The WHY behind BeRad The Podcast

This is why I wanted to start this podcast. To examine what makes the great, great. Des Linden is inarguably and consistently one of the greatest athletes of our time, and she attributes it all to a slow burn of professionalism.

I do and therefore, I am (and can)

So these are the juicy deets that were promised, and this is just the beginning! The blog will be weekly, at least, covering everything from the classic ultra running trials and triumphs, some nerdy science behind it, life stuff such as soliciting wedding-planning advice, and how I mistakenly got waxed the day after the Javelina 100k. If nothing else, it will be somewhat unique.
